The client: A UK-headquartered retail major

The problem: After a streak of rapid growth, the company was challenged to retain its talent. It wanted to improve career options for lateral and/or vertical moves to its employees in the IT Services stream.

But could it execute such an ambitious plan within a short time?

The retailer’s HR department signed up Talking Heads.

The Talking Heads crack team stepped back and took in the larger picture. It drew up a plan of action for the next twelve months to create and implement a framework for aspirants to grow and move laterally within the career options available to them. Further, these paths were linked to other HR processes like Internal Job Postings, Training, Promotions, etc.


We designed and executed a Career Development Model (CDM), which helped the client build capability within its organization. Further, the CDM helped demonstrate the organization’s commitment to employee development and growth. The result: Employees thought their company was a great place to work.


Conceiving and putting in place a CDM within a short time-frame is not exactly child's play. By leaving HR to the experts, the retailer's HR department was able to focus on core organizational objectives.


We had put the H back in their HR. Not surprisingly, they gave us a thumbs-up.
